Artistic Theme: Mixed Media.

A beginners definition of mixed media, in reference to visual art, is an art piece in which multiple mediums of art have been used within the creation. An example of mediums include paint, ink, college, graphite, etc. Multimedia art is the use of art alongside with non-visual elements, such as sound, literature, drama, dance, motion graphics, music or interactivity.

The most important factors when executing mixed media is to place the mediums in order of thickest. Thus using the
"fat over lean" method.

2. Carla Miedema
  • An local Ontario Artist who uses relief sculpture and a build up of acrylic paint to create her works of Art. She mainly makes use of landscapes and the elevation of small pieces of nature such as muchrooms, lichen, and wildflowers as the focal point of her artwork.
  • She has graduated with a degree in Fine Arts at Queens University.

3. Panteles Xerohemonas
  • Has a mixed media series called the 16 Devotional Stories that combines a financial background with emotional imagery, thus combining two different elements that are commonly not together.. together! :O
  • On a serious note, it's a quite unique series of pieces. The old age glued together college premise taken to the next level along with technology because it seems to appear that it created with the assistance of technology. I can not find much information about him, but his work is quite nice.

4. You Are Beautiful
  • This probably isn't mixed media, but it is a great way to promote happiness and self-confidence in a person. Imagine driving down this PUBLIC highway and seeing this at 7:30 am in the morning, waist deep in traffic. That'd make me pretty happy, or at least make me a smile.
  • This is their missions statement:
You Are Beautiful is a simple, powerful statement which is incorporated into the over absorption of mass media and lifestyles that are wrapped in consumer culture.

The intention behind this project is to reach beyond ourselves as individuals to make a difference by creating moments of positive self realization. We're just attempting to make the world a little better.

Intention is the most important aspect of the You Are Beautiful project in its idea of purity. Nothing is sacred. Everything that has a perceived value becomes commodified. We work extremely hard that this message is received as a simple act of kindness, and nothing more.

Advertising elicits a response to buy, where this project elicits a response to do something. The attempt with You Are Beautiful is to create activism instead of consumerism.

You Are Beautiful uses the medium of advertising and commercialization to spread a positive message.
Projects like these make a difference in the world by catching us in the midst of daily life and creating moments of positive self realization.
